Mum-Wear: Why Maternity Clothing Shouldn’t End After Pregnancy
When you hear the words maternity wear, what comes to mind?
For many people, it’s clothing that’s only worn during pregnancy. But that’s one of the biggest misconceptions about maternity clothing.

The Biggest Myths About Maternity Wear

Myth 1: Maternity clothes are only for pregnant women.
Pregnancy is only one chapter of motherhood. Your body continues to change long after your baby is born, and comfort, support and confidence don’t suddenly stop being important once your bump has gone.
Myth 2: Maternity bras are only for breastfeeding.
Many maternity bras are designed with nursing clips, but that’s not their only purpose. They provide gentle support for changing breasts during pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Whether you’re breastfeeding, bottle feeding or not feeding at all, comfort shouldn’t have an expiry date.
Myth 3: Postpartum leggings are only for the first few weeks after birth.
Recovery doesn’t end after six weeks. Many mums continue to experience abdominal weakness, pelvic floor changes, C-section sensitivity and body changes for months or even years. Comfortable, supportive leggings aren’t just for the immediate postpartum period—they’re for mums whenever they need them.
What Does “Maternity” Really Mean?
The word maternity simply means motherhood.

That includes:
-
Expectant mums.
-
Women recovering after birth.
-
Breastfeeding mums.
-
Bottle-feeding mums.
-
Surrogates who have carried a baby.
-
Mums of one child or ten.
-
Mums whose children are babies, teenagers or adults.
Once you become a mum, you don’t stop being one because your baby is born.
Yet so much of the clothing industry treats motherhood as if it has an end date.
The Missing Stage of Women’s Clothing
There are endless brands creating activewear, shapewear and fashion for women. There are pregnancy collections and nursing collections.
But where is the clothing designed simply for mums?
Motherhood changes your body in ways that can last for years. Many women want soft fabrics, flexible waistbands, supportive bras and clothing that moves with them—not because they’re pregnant, but because they’re mothers.
Comfort shouldn’t be something you lose once you leave the maternity ward.
Why Nurtura Was Created

Nurtura wasn’t created just for pregnancy.
It was created for motherhood.
Our vision is clothing that supports mums through every stage—from the first positive pregnancy test, through birth, postpartum recovery and everyday life afterwards.
Because motherhood doesn’t have a finish line.
We have brands dedicated to pregnancy vitamins, baby products and nursery furniture, yet there are very few clothing brands built around supporting mothers throughout their entire journey.
We believe mums deserve clothing that evolves with them, not clothing they outgrow the moment their baby arrives.
At Nurtura, we don’t design for a bump.
We design for mum.
